Austin Aquarium hopes to inspire a new generation of ocean explorers and conservationists from Greater Austin through education and shared experiences with live animals in order to create an ever-expanding appreciation for our planet’s oceans, rainforests and deserts. The experience will instill respect and awe for species they don’t see every day. Students will expand their understanding of our ecosystems as they remain engaged throughout the field trip for maximized learning.

Austin Aquarium hosts over 30 exhibits and more than 2,500 animal species! Interact with sharks, stingrays, sea jellies, octopuses, birds, reptiles, amphibians, tropical and cold water fish, and so much more!

The Austin Aquarium offers a wide variety of educational programs for field trips led by the aquarium’s staff of educators, biologists and aquarists. Field trips will include many hands-on activities as well as age-specific programming. Experience invertebrates (sea stars, urchins, anemones, and more) native to the Oregon Coastline and areas of the South and Central Pacific.

 

The Austin Aquarium provides teachers and students with access to interactive educational opportunities

Students in the Austin area can learn about the ocean and get a good look at its strange and wonderful inhabitants without having to make a trip out to the coast.


Please let our staff know about any special requirements such as special educational needs, if your group is studying a topic we can include in our presentation, if your group is working toward a badge, patch, loop or rank, or if there are any special language requirements.

Austin Aquarium Educational Field Trips

Field trip pricing is good for all Pre-K through 12th Grade students regardless of the size of the group (educational institutions, certified child care, home school, YMCA, or any other legitimately certified groups of children). Please show certification at the door.

 

Low-income school districts may qualify for up to $2 per person discounts via our scholarship fund.

 

Homeschool small groups are encouraged to pair up with other homeschoolers or contact the aquarium on which date you prefer and they will gladly pair you up with others interested in that day. The Austin Aquarium does include special pricing for homeschool groups of 15 or more. Homeschoolers, contact the aquarium to reserve your date by calling us at 512-222-5586 or email at info@austinaquarium.com.

In order to keep our Field Trip schedule running smoothly and on time in addition to accommodating all our groups, please try and be as punctual as possible and arrive only at your appointment time.

 

If you find that you are running late, please call the aquarium at 512-222-5586 so we can adjust our schedule as it likely will affect our other field trips. We are not able to accommodate your party more than 15 minutes before your scheduled arrival time. To help expedite your check-in process please keep students on the bus until an tour guide has come to direct your group.

Cancellation Policy
Cancel your event before two weeks of your party and you will receive a full refund on your credit card.  

Cancellations not received two weeks prior to your party are not eligible for a refund.

Austin Aquarium Educational Field Trips

If you have multiple people coming, purchase a multiple experience voucher using the button below. Note: Once you receive your voucher, you must book each person into the date and time you desire.  To ensure your experience is a good one, please be sure to book yourself into a time slot. Otherwise, our team will not be expecting you.

 

Tag along with our experienced crew on their morning rounds as they prepare for the day, check on and feed animals and check water levels. Great for aspiring aquarists, biologists, herpetologists, science geeks and animal lovers!

 

Members: $44.95 | Non-Members $54.95

Morning Rounds fluctuates for our staff each day based on the feeding schedules of each species.

 

A Morning Rounds guest experience can vary. You might assist with water quality testing, maintaining our filtration system, preparing diets, and feeding some of the marine life that require special attention!  This program is ideal for those guests over the age of eight interested in experiencing a day in the life of our husbandry staff! We will provide you with the opportunity to shadow the staff member doing the most interesting activity for you. Admission to the aquarium is included, so please stay as long as you like after your Morning Rounds is complete.

PRIVATE EVENTS

With 24,000 square feet of space, the aquarium can host groups of 30 to 590 guests.  Whether you are having a birthday party, a family reunion, or a business meeting, your guests will never forget the day they used the aquarium for their own private party.

PREPPING YOUR PARTY

For groups larger than 590, we can install a fully enclosed tent outside the facility.  The outdoor tent can be used for dining, entertainment, and extra seating space.  For smaller parties, we can set up in our main concessions area or spread out throughout the aquarium. Our experienced event planner will be glad to help you plan and coordinate any type of gathering or event you have. Alternatively, you can bring your own caterer or service provider based on your needs.  Aquarium guides are available to take you and your guests on an aquarium tour.

Our mermaid can be the center of attention at any event or party you may have that is NOT at Austin Aquarium.

 

If this is for a birthday party, our mermaid will provide: Birthday t-shirt, goody bags for all children (these goody bags have an admission pass), and glitter tattoos. She will take photos with people.  Inquire if you desire our Mermaid to swim in your pool.

$95/hour. Mileage is $1/mile. For parties further than 50 miles from the Aquarium, contact us for special mileage pricing. A $100 deposit is required.
